Policies that promote corporate social responsibility enjoy a special attention in EU states. European Commission and European Parliament have passed numerous strategic documents, policy statements or action plans on responsible business issues.
European Commission is calling on European States to assist the enterprises develop their social responsibility and is encouraging businesses to publicly demonstrate their loyalty to sustainable development principles and, in cooperation with various stakeholders, amplify their commitments for responsible business.
Promotion of CSR is integrated in various spheres of EU policies, such as: employment and social affairs policy; policy on the enterprises; environmental policy; customers rights policy; State procurement and foreign relations policies; public administration policy, etc.

On the policy level, official support to corporate responsibility took its roots in 2001 by publishing European Commission policy document - Green Paper: Promoting a European Frameworks for Corporate Social responsibility. Ever since then, for the last 20 years, sustainable development and corporate responsibility have been the core of the European Commission’s all policies and strategies for businesses.
